5 Reasons Why Quizzes Outperform Other Lead Magnets

I mean, how much time have you spent finding out which Ryan Gosling movie character is your soulmate?

If you want to claim your own Ryan Gosling, you can take that quiz here.

Which Harry Potter house would you belong to?

Which Friends character you’re most like?

Whatever your jam, there’s a quiz for you.

The most viral quizzes are based on personas and archetypes (Which Disney Princess Are You?) or the ever-popular quasi-scientific personality tests.

But there’s also quizzes with titles like, how much do you really know about…? Perfect for know-it-alls, right?

Even before the internet, women were doing Cosmopolitan quizzes to find out their sex IQ or if they should get back with their ex.

OK, so we know quizzes are responsible for sucking up much of society’s productive time, but how can they help you market your business?

How can they get people to your website and turn them into paying customers?

How can they connect you with the people you want to work with and turn them into raving fans of you and your business?

Why you should create your own quiz reason #1

You should create your own quiz because they are the hottest lead magnet or opt-in around.

According to LeadQuizzes, the average quiz has a 31.6% conversion rate.

This is the case across all industries.

The New York Times is known for quality journalism, but their most popular piece of content in 2014 wasn’t an in-depth article about some serious topic, it was… you guessed it, a quiz.

The quiz asked Americans about which words they used and how they pronounced them, then provided a personal dialect map, showing which parts of the U.S. they were likely to come from.

Reason #2

Quizzes speak to our deepest psychological needs.

We’ve all got one of those annoying friends that blame their star sign for everything.

You know what I’m talking about, right?

“I’m two hours late because I’m a Gemini and couldn’t decide which dress to wear.”

Uh, whatever, girl.

The drive to find out more about ourselves and assign ourselves to a type is based on the way we make sense of the world.

We love narrative (including about why we are the way we are) and we love to know more about number one.

Quizzes speak to these deep psychological needs. That’s why they’re so addictive and why they’re so effective as a relationship-building (i.e. marketing) tool.

Reason #3

How do you like to learn about something?

Would you rather:

A) Attend a boring webinar?

B) Read a boring blog post?

C) Download a boring PDF?

D) Do a fun quiz?

Interactive learning is fun and engaging.

Entertain while you educate and, before you know it, you’ll have an audience hungry for more of what you offer.

Reason #4

Quizzes can serve many marketing goals.

As we’ve covered, they can draw people into your world and give them information about you.

But you can also use them to find out information from potential customers.

Say you’re a coach and you don’t want to work with clients who have a really negative mindset, the Debbie Downers of the world.

You know they will shoot down every idea that you have and working with them will end up being a waste of your time and theirs.

You can use a quiz to screen them out.

Or you can use a quiz to segment your customer market.

For example, if your customers are both men and women, but you would market to them differently, you can use a quiz to put them in different email lists.

Want to tailor your products to the particular needs of individual customers? Create a product recommendation quiz. This works well for products like shampoo and skincare.

Reason #5

Honestly, why would you not create your own quiz?
